Language Cards and ALL of my CLASSES

I finally got a chance to play with the new Language Cards. To simulate what y'all are going through, I decided to learn French. I took French 1 in high school and I had a Haitian Creole class in the Army, so I can say my name, count, say my colors, and other basics...sound familiar?

Here are the steps...

1. Follow the directions on the back of your card. Crystal volunteered to sit next to me and register her card. She said it was pretty easy. Make sure you can download the software to your computer. When I tried to download the software it froze at 99%, so I quit. I tried again later and everything zipped right through.

2. Set up your personal information and select your class. I think you can only choose one class, pick the one that you need the most help in...for example if you're in my grammar class and culture class, you may want to focus more on speaking and listening exercises, so select the culture class. Email me and tell me which, class you selected.

3. TAKE the PLACEMENT TEST. It's only 20-30minutes-ish and it will place you where you need to start so that all of the activities will help you improve and advance your language skills. Don't stress, you'll be surprised at how much you know. Please put your level in the email also.

Levels:
  • Beginner
  • Intermediate
  • Intermediate+
  • Advanced
  • Expert

4. Once you've taken your test and found out your level, it'll be time to start taking lessons. Here's where you need to think about what you want to improve:
  • Reading and Writing
  • Speaking and Listening
  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • All Skills
  1. If you're in more than one class, you may want to pick All Skills
  2. If you're in SPA161 and/or SPI113 you may want to pick Speaking and Listening
  3. If you're in SPI213 only, please pick Grammar
Your goal is to average 1hr30min - 2hrs a week using your Language Card. I'll be able to monitor your progress and you want to aim for 90% and above your activities, you can always redo any activity.

The work you do on your Language Card will replace homework assignments but NOT in class quizzes, NOT in class exams, and sort of NOT discussion assignment. You'll still have to participate in discussions, but your discussions will be slightly different.

I'll repost this on blackboard for those not on Facebook.

Ciao,
MLMoore

Emma, after the placement test, I would do "All Skills." It will help you improve all aspects of the language.

April, I'm sorry but you can't use it on campus. Just wait until your computer is fixed and you're not bothering me...that's a very good question.
